John William Rush, pioneer resident of Cole County passed away at Eldon, Mo., Monday morning, February 15, 1943, following an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Rush, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Rush, was born December 22, 1864, in Adair County, Ky. At the time of his death he was 78 years, 1 month and 23 days old. He came from Kentucky to Osage City, Mo. and there he was married to Maggie Case in 1891. To this union three children were born. One son, Cleva Rush, preceded his father in death in 1928.

He and his wife lived in Osage City for six years following their marriage and then they moved to a farm where the present own of Eugene, Mo., now stands. He later helped in the founding and the developing of the town of Eugene where he was in the hotel business for many years. After spending some 21 years in Eugene he then moved to Fall City, Nebr. Since the death of his wife on February 16, 1939, he has made his home in Eldon with his son, Clarence.

Mr. Rush was a man of quiet dignity who was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Being one who took so keen an interest in developing the community that he chose to make his home for so many years, his acquaintances were many. His counsel was always freely given to those who sought his advice and his judgment was highly respected. In spite of his advanced years he had enjoyed good health and remained active until his health began to fail about the first of the year. And he was bedfast for several weeks before his death.

He is survived by his two children, Mrs. Louis J. (Rita) Krentz of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Clarence Rush of Eldon. He also leaves to mourn his passing six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The body lay in state at the Phillips Funeral Home until Tuesday evening and funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Gordo Chapel in Jefferson City. The services were conducted by Rev. A.B. Jackson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, and burial was made in the Riverview Cemetery beside his wife and son.
