Sister Dion Janz, age 93, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity of
Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2001 at
Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 at Holy Family
Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev.
Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem, with Burial to follow at the Holy Family
Convent Cemetery.
Sister Dion Janz was born on Oct. 31, 1907 in Appleton, Wis., daughter
of the late Bartholomew and Caroline Schiebler Janz. Sister Dion earned
a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount St. Mary College, Los Angeles,
Calif., and a Master of Arts Degree from Loyola University, Los Angeles,
Calif. In 1923 she entered the convent and professed her vows in 1926.
Sister Dion served as an elementary teacher and/or librarian at St.
Boniface, St. Paul and Sacred Heart, Manitowoc, St. Mary, Kaukauna, St.
Philip, Green Bay, St. Patrick, Maple Grove, St. Gabriel, Neenah, Holy
Rosary, New Holstein, St. Joseph, Alverno, Wis., St. Benedict,
Cambridge, St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio, Immaculate Conception, Yuma,
Ariz., San Roque, Santa Barbara, Calif., and as a high school teacher at
Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha, Roncalli High School, Manitowoc
and St. Willibrord, Chicago, Ill. After her retirement from active
ministry, she performed various services at Holy Family Convent. Since
1994 she has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse. Sister Dion was also a member of the Franciscan Sister of
Christian Charity.
Survivors include Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, a brother and
sister-in-law, John and Angeline Janz, Green Bay, nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 4 to8 .m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting with funeral arrangements.
