Sister Simona Jamiel, age 74, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity died Thursday evening, Aug. 26, 2004, at Holy Family
Convent.
The former Dorothy Jamiel was born Feb. 6, 1930 in Cambridge, Ohio,
daughter of the late Amiel and Emelie Gimaiel Jamiel. She entered the
convent in 1949 and professed her vows in 1951. Sister Simona earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc. Sister
Simona served as an elementary teacher at St. Mary, Algoma; St. Wendel,
Cleveland; St. Patrick, Maple Grove; St. Mary, Greenleaf; Sacred Heart,
Sherwood; St. Mary, Hilbert; St. Paul, Wrightstown; St. Mary,
Reedsville; St. Anne, Francis Creek; St. John the Baptist, Plymouth; St.
Thomas More, Appleton; Holy Family, Green Bay, all of Wisconsin; St.
Peter, Bapchule, San Xavier, Tucson, both of Arizona; SS Peter & Paul,
Wellston and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio. After retiring from the
teaching ministry, she served as a homemaker at St. Benedict, Cambridge,
Ohio and performed various services at Holy Family Convent and St.
Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since Dec. 2003, she has been residing in
St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the
Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three
sisters and a brother-in-law: Rose Holdmann, Griffith, Ind.; Esther
Ankrom, Kingsville, Ohio; Emelie and Richard Norris, West Melbourne,
Fla; three brothers and four sisters-in-law: James Jamiel, Melbourne,
Fla.; Edward and Mary Jamiel, Quaker City, Ohio; Philip and Charlotte
Jamiel, Strongsville, Ohio; Betty Jamiel, Largo, Fla.; Camille Howard,
Bedford, Ky. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004. A prayer service will
be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
