Roger C. Hanks, 70, a resident of Somers for most of his life, died early Monday afternoon, October 8, 2012 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield, MA a son of the late Chester W. and Ethel (Burnham) Hanks. Roger was employed with the Town of Somers for 32 years from which he was recently retiring as the operator of the town transfer station. He also owned and operated Roger's Landscaping and Plowing, a family owned and operated business which he started in 2004. Roger and his brother Clinton co-owned and raced a modified race car for several years which they ran at most of the local tracks in MA and CT as well as traveling occasionally to the Pocono's. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed snowmobiling and at one time was a member of the Somers Snowmobile Club. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce (Cheney) Hanks and leaves four stepchildren, his brother, Clinton A. Hanks and his wife Nancy of FL; eight grandchildren, and his godson, Darrin McIntyre. He was the beloved husband of the late Linda (Lee) Hanks who died on October 29, 1999. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Route 190, with burial to follow at New West Cemetery, Main Street, both in Somers. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 11th from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be directed to Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108 or to Autism Society of CT, P.O.
