For John Theis, Sr. (John Theis, Sr.)
Will Be Tomorrow
Funeral services for John Theis, b. 12/29/1869 d.07/11/1950
Sr., 81, who died Tuesday morning
at his home in the south part of
Hawarden, will be held at St. Mary's
church at 10 o'clock Friday
morning with Rev. Fr. F. Graf in
charge. Burial will she under the
direction of the Frazier Funeral
service in St. Mary's cemetery.
Rosary will be said at the Frazier
Funeral home this evening.
Mr. Theis had been ill three
years and was confined to his
wheel chair. During his long illness
his aged wife cared for him.
About 6 o'clock Tuesday morning
he awakened Mrs. Theis, who
waited on him, and shortly after
she had returned to bed he died.
Mr. Theis was engaged in farming
and lived north of here prior to
coming to Hawarden 28 years
ago.
He was born December 29, 1869,
in Luxembourg, Germany, and
came to America in 1885 at the
age of 16. Eight years later he
returned to Germany. While there
he was married to Susan Koob on
April 4, 1894, and immediately after
he returned to America with
his bride. They located at Le
Mars where they lived a short
time and then moved to Currie,
Minn. In 1906 he came to Hawarden
and for the past 44 years lived
here.
He is survived by his widow; a
son, John Theis of Lake (Park,
Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Harry
'Hodoway of Hawarden; eight
Grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren
