Obituary of Ida Caroline Koerwitz

Ida Caroline Koerwitz was born July 10, 1893, near Deshler. She was the daughter of Mr. William and Mrs. Louise, nee Koerwitz, Eitzmann. * She was baptized in July 1893 by the Rev. William Flock. On March 24, 1907, she was confirmed by the Rev. William Cholcher in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler. She received her Christian Education at St. Peter Lutheran School.

On March 27, 1913, she was married to Carl Koerwitz. The marriage took place at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the REv. William Cholcher officiating. This union was blessed with nine children. Mr. and Mrs. Koerwitz farmed until 1919 when they moved into Deshler.

Ida's husband passed away in October 1944. She continued to live in Deshler, living the last two and one half years at Parkview Haven Nursing home.

She passed away on Monday, January 18, reaching the age of 88 years, y months, and 8 days. preceding her in death were her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Rufina) Larsen.

She is survived by four sons: Wilmer and his wife Elsie of Las Vegas, Nevada; Roland and his wife Mildred of Deshler; Lavern and his wife Lois of Denver; and Orville and his wife Jane of Lake Forest, Illinois; four daughters: Doris and her husband Boyd Stepp of Clarksville, Tennessee; Ruth and her husband Stan Rodenburg of Lincoln Nebraska; Norma and her husband Lloyd Rupprecht of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Marian and her husband, George Beyer of Crete, Nebraska; one sister, Lydia Biehrt of San Diego, California; 33 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on January 22, 1982 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler. Pastor James Moll was the officiant and Mrs. Charles Lieder the organist. Pastor Moll's message was entitled, "Jesus, What A Friend!" Mr. Ronald Vieselmeyer sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus." Mr. Arthur Koerwitz sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." The congregation sang "Asleep in Jesus."

Interment took place at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Deshler. Several grandsons served as casket bearers. Arrangements were made by Ahrendts Funeral Home Associates.
