Charles W. Coombs died Tuesday, May 3, 1927, at his home at 66 Union Street after a long period of failing health. It was his 71st birthday. He had been a resident of Belfast for 35 years, coming here from Bangor was respected by a large number of friends, He was born in Rockport, the son of George Warren and Emily (Boardman) Coombs.
For many years he was a well-known chef, being employed at Moosehead Lake, at Crosby Inn, Belfast, and other large Maine hotels. In later years he had been at several seaside hotels.
His wife, formerly Miss Harriet Gilmore, their children, Charles G. Coombs of Holyoke, Mass., Mrs. Harriet Edna Dickey, Mrs. Ruth M. Johnson and Everett Leroy Coombs of Belfast, a brother, James E. Coombs of Portland and a sister, Mrs. Sidney Robinson of Santa Monica, Calif., with a number of grandchildren, survive him.
The funeral was held at his late home Thursday afternoon with Rev. Wm. F. Skerrye of the First Church officiating.
