DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Herman Althof, Prominent German Resident, Succumbs to Attack of Dropsy.
Herman Althof, a pioneer of this State, and a well-known resident of this city, died this morning at his home, 950 Linden street, after an illness of some duration. Mr. Althof had suffered from dropsy and finally succumbed to the disease. Decedent was 77 years pf age and a native of Germany.
Mr. Althof was a member of the firm of Althof and Bahls, bookbinders, now located in Alameda. He came to California forty-five years ago and had lived in Oakland thirty-five years. He was one of the founders of the German club of this city.
Decedent was a widower and the brother of Theodore Althof and Mrs. Elizabeth Bahls, and uncle to Herman H. and Richard Bahls.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery.
