Wint was born in Kentucky to Daniel Boone Hunt and Susan Miller Smith. He was named after his grandfather Elhanan Winchester Smith. Wint married Mary Freund on September 27, 1883 in Evansville, IN. He had eight children, Georgia, Tom, Ama, Mary (who he had nicknamed 'Pete' because when she said 'I am sweet' it sounded like 'I am Pete'), Charlie, Belle, Jim and Clarence. Wint died at the age of 48 years, due to pneumonia. His youngest child was four months old.
