Mrs. Priscilla Scheffer, consort of Mr. Wm. Scheffer of Salem, Clarion county, Pa., departed this life September 18, 1878, aged 60 years, 11 months and 11 days. She was the daughter of Mr. Christian Kribbs, born October 17th, 1817. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed as a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church, A.D., 1841, by Rev. G. F. Ehrenfield. On the 22nd of October, 1844, she was married to her now sorrowing husband, which union was blessed with eleven children. Four have preceded her to the eternal world. One daughter and six sons, including the Rev. J.A. Scheffer of Nova Scotia, are left to mourn her departure. She was an affectionate wife, a kind mother, and a consistent Christian. For several years she was afflicted with cancer and though the best medical skill at home and in Philadelphia had been employed it was all of no avail. On the 19th inst. her body was quietly laid to rest to await the trumpet sound, when the dead in Christ shall arise first and when, with the then still living saints changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, they shall mount up to meet the Lord in the air. Her remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of sympathizing and sorrowing friends and neighbors. The ocassion was improved in accordance with the request of the deceased by a sermon by Rev. J.B. Fox of Emlenton, based on Matt. 21:43.
