Husband of Pearl Meitner and Dad of John and Sean Meitner.

Harvey served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on C-46D #44-77767, 63rd Squadron, 403rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Dane County, Wisconsin prior to the war.

Harvey was promoted to First Lieutenant on July 8, 1945.

C-46D #44-77767 was transporting mail from Palawan Island to Nichols Field, Luzon, Philippines. They crashed into the east side of the highest peak at Del Monte Point, northwestern Mindoro Island. The entire crew of 6 and 2 passengers were lost on this mission.

Harvey was "Killed In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash during the war.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on November 9, 1949.

Service # O-770715

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.

Airmen who perished on C-46D #44-77767:

Beasley, Robert E ~ S/Sgt, Crew Chief, MO
Gordon, Dean W ~ 1st Lt, Pilot, WI
Kaplan, Casimir J ~ Sgt, Radio Operator, NJ
Latham, Leslie H ~ FO, Co-Pilot, CA
Meitner, Harvey E ~ 1st Lt, Co-Pilot, WI
Seebon, Edward L ~ 2nd Lt, Navigator, OH
Tang, Don C ~ Corp, Passenger, AZ
Tyler, Paul J ~ T/Sgt, Passenger, OR

Corp. Tang served as a mail clerk on this mission. The reason there are 2 Co-Pilot's is more than likely because FO Latham, still ranked as a Flight Officer, was apparently still in training which was being provided by 2nd Lt. Meitner.
