Kay Harris DuVernet, 62, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. P. DuVernet of Albany, GA died August 30, 2009, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be held Wednesday September 2nd, 11 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery in Albany with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Kay, educated at Vanderbilt University and Georgia State University, was an award-winning photographer and published poet. She lived for many years in New Orleans, where her interest in photography began and where many of her photographs were taken. Her works have appeared in museums, galleries, and art centers throughout the Southeast and are now in the permanent collection of the Morris Museum in Augusta, GA. At the time of her death, her book of poems and photographs, Rain from Nowhere, was in the final stages of publication. Kay is survived by her sisters, Diane Miller and her husband, Tim, of Athens, GA; Susan Logan and her husband, Stuart, of Albany; Laura Harrell and her husband, Bill, of Albany; Dia DuVernet and her husband, Pierce Tyler, of Portsmouth, VA; her nieces and nephews, Lucky, Jamaica and Dixie Miller of Athens, Kallie and Jenny Phillips of Albany, Bailey Logan of Albany, and James DuVernet Tyler of Portsmouth; her aunts and uncle, Polly DuVernet Jones, of Albany, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richmond Crawford, Jr., of Lexington, GA; many cousins, friends, and Linda Hudson and Jewell Jackson, who both gave Kay such loving care. The family will receive friends at the home of Laura and Bill Harrell, 401 DuVernet Ln., Albany. Those desiring may make memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 212 N.
