My 4G-Grandfather Martin Mathias Bittner used tt in his surname. This family later began to spell their surname as Bitner.
The church records at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, previously White Church, listed Martin Mathias Bittner or Bitner's children as Bittner. (I secured a copy of these records from the pastor at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church , Marion, PA.). However, his daughter Margaret's cemetery stone is engraved Margaret Bitner. Is this an error? I do not know, but her death year 1817 on her stone is wrong. Her date of birth is correct as 21 Feb 1783; her date of death is correct as 5 Feb 1847; her age at death is also correct.
