The funeral for Hazelle Helgeson, 92, of Devils Lake, formerly of Harlow, will be held January 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. She died Jan. 20, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Friday at the church an hour before the funeral. Pastor Betty J. Stedman will officiate. Claudette Carlson and Carl Gilbertson will be vocalists, Jace Riggin will be pianist and Carol Thompson will be organist. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and honorary bearers will be members of the Robert Tovsrud VFW Auxiliary 757 of Harlow. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of arrangements.

Hazelle Wilma Helgeson was born Nov. 30, 1915 in Eldon Township, rural Minnewaukan, to Clarence and Gustina (Skadeland) Helgeson. She was reared there and attended the Eldon Township School. She worked for area families prior to her marriage to Edwin Helgeson Nov. 21, 1934 at Devils Lake. They farmed southwest of Harlow until 1953. In 1950 they purchased the Home Store in Harlow and operated it until retiring in 1981. They continued living in Harlow until September of 1998 when she moved to Skyview Apartments in Devils Lake and he entered the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake. He died Oct. 22, 2001. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center Oct. 26, 2005.
She was a lifelong member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan and was confirmed there on Nov. 2, 1930. She was a member of the St. Olaf WELCA and hosted many gatherings at he home in Devils Lake. While living in Harlow, she was a member of the Twilight Circle of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the Robert Tovsrud VFW 757 Auxiliary. She was the Harlow news correspondent for the Benson County Farmers Press for many years and in 1996 was the author of one of the True Memory Stories published in the North Dakota Arts and Humanities Council publication, North Dakota Seniors Tell Their Stories. She was a longtime fan of the Minnesota Twins and Jeopardy.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Janice) Helgeson of Maddock and Gary (Joy) Helgeson of Jamestown; a daughter, Jean (Rae) Olson of Harlow; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Olsen of Moorhead, Minn., Evelyn (Mrs. Glen) Chapman of Everett, Wash. and Marilyn Aanderud of Longview, Wash.; a brother, Harlan (Ethel) Helgeson of Rugby; and a sister-in-law, Sally Lunde of Leeds.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
