Sister Hoffman was born Marie Hoffman on September 19, 1894 at Lancaster, Wisconsin, daughter of the late John and Gertrude Wissbaun Hoffman. She entered the convent in 1922 and professed her vows August 15, 1925. She received her B.A. Degree from the Catholic University of America at Washington D.C. Sister taught high school at St. Ambrose at Ironwood,, Michigan; St. Mary's at Delaware, Ohio; St. Peter and Paul at Wellston,Ohio, Guardian Angels at West Point, Nebraska, Guernsey Catholic Center at Cambridge, Ohio and Holy Family Academy at Manitowoc. Sister served as directress of Novices at Holy Family convent from 1944 to 1960. Sister resided at the Mother House since her retirement in 1974.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and a nephew, Rev. Tom Hoffmann of Mt. St. Mary Seminary, Paradale, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent from 7:30 pm to 9 pm Friday evening. A prayer service will be held in the convent chapel at 7 pm. Pfeffer Funeral Home of Manitowoc is in charge of arrangements.
