Sister Mariola Henry, age 94, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity
of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at
Holy Family Convent.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 11,
2000, at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial, will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jaden, O.Praem, with burial
to follow at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born April 5, 1906, in Manistique, Mich., the daughter of the
late William and Sarah Jane McGlue Henry. Sister Mariola earned a
bachelor of arts degree from St. Norbert College, DePere and a masters
of education degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. She entered
the convent in 1921 and professed her vows in 1924. Sister Mariola
served as an elementary teacher at St. Mary, Bloomington, St. Rose,
Clintonville, St. Mary, Algoma, Guardian Angels, Onieda, St. Mary,
Kaukauna, St. Joseph, Waukesha, St. Mary, Brillion, St. Joseph, Sturgeon
Bay, Sacred Heart, Oshkosh, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls; St. Willibrord,
Chicago, Ill., SS. Peter and Paul, Wellston, Ohio,and as a high school
teacher at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Mich., and Catholic Central
Steubenville, Ohio.
She also served as a librarian at Roncallie High School, Manitowoc,
Xavier High School, Appleton, St. Francis de Sales, Manistique, Mich.
and as an instructor and librarian at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc.
She retired to Holy Family Convent in 1991 and has been a resident of
St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1995.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a
brother, James Henry, Redford, Mich.; a sister, Catherine Wallace,
Dothan, Ala.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting with funeral arrangements.
