Sister Lina Hebein, age 99, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 2004, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
The former Magdalen Hebein was born June 29, 1905, in Milwaukee,
daughter of the late Martin and Catherine Rachoi Hebein. She entered the
convent in 1918 and professed her vows in 1923. Sister Lina earned a
Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan Normal College, Ypsilanti,
Mich., and a Master of Education degree from Marquette University,
Milwaukee. Sister Lina served as an elementary teacher and/or principal
at St. Mary, Kaukauna; Sacred Heart and Holy Innocents, both of
Manitowoc; St. Phillip, Green Bay; Sacred Heart, Oshkosh; St. Joseph,
Waukesha; St. Edward, Mackville, all of Wisconsin; St. Nicholas,
Zanesville; St. Benedict, Cambridge, both of Ohio; St. Ambrose,
Ironwood, St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Holy Name, Escanaba; and St.
Anne, Menominee, all of Michigan. She also served as a librarian at St.
Andrew, Manitowoc; St. Joseph, Kellnersville; and as a helper in the
mailroom at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. She retired to Ozanam Home,
New Berlin, in 1979 and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, in 1986. Since
2000, she has been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a
sister-in-law: Eleanore Hebein, Greendale; along with nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, a Holy
Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian
Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial at Holy
Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov 4, 2004, where a prayer
service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
