Gordon E. Specht Sr. was born in Leigh, NE September 30, 1926 to William and Annie (Sumption) Specht and grew up in Schuyler, NE. He was a WWII veteran who joined the US Army on February 22, 1945 and served until October 24, 1946. He was married to Wilma Styskal on March 15, 1947 in Hiawatha, KS. They lived briefly in Schuyler and then moved to Wahoo. Gordon worked for Union Pacific Railroad for ten years. Then he worked at E.W. Kneip Packing House near Wahoo, the Mead Ordinance Plant and Virgl Implement in Wahoo. After retirement, he worked part time for the City of Wahoo. Gordon passed away at his home in Wahoo on October 7, 2012 at the age of 86.

Gordon loved watching car racing and was a big NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed watching boxing matches and, being a huge Yankee fan, he loved watching the Yankee games. Gordon could always be seen driving his pickup around town. Gordon was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Post #4502.

He is survived by his son and daughters in law, Gerald "Jerry" and Mary Specht, Beverly Specht, all of Wahoo; grandchildren Scott (Lynne) Specht, Linda (Art) Hoven, Mark (Kari) Specht, Kirk (April) Specht, Jim (Candy) Specht, Jenna Specht and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma; son Gordon Lee Specht; daughter Linda Specht; one brother and two sisters.



Mass of Christian burial: 10 am Wednesday, Oct, 10, 2012, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo. Interment: St. Francis Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post #4502 & American Legion Post #82. Visitation: Tuesday, 4 - 8 pm with rosary 7 pm at Svoboda Funeral Home, Wahoo. Memorials in care of the family for a future designation.
