Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Loveland, 87 years of age, a lifelong resident of this
community and highly esteemed resident of Monticello for more than 40 years, who passedaway at her home on Monroe street Friday afternoon, March 6, 1942, as the result of a stroke which she suffered a week earlier, were conducted at 1:30 Monday afternoon in the Voegeli funeral home and at 2 in the Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed church. Rev. A. R. Achtemeier, church pastor, officiated, and interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Loveland, who enjoyed comparatively good health and was unusually active for one of her advanced years, suffered a stroke the week before and never regained consciousness. Maria Lemon was a native of New Glarus township, having been born April 27, 1854, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Gunsalius Lemon. She acquired her education in the Voegeli district rural school. On April 26, 1874, she was united in marriage to Franklin Loveland, the ceremony being performed in Monroe. They farmed in Washington township for many years and in 1901 moved to Monticello to reside. Mr. Loveland passed away in Monticello in 1907. Mrs. Loveland was a former member of the Methodist church and the John Ross Relief corps, Monticello.

Surviving are two sons, Atty. W. A. Loveland, former Green county judge, Monticello, and Henry Loveland, Washington township; a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Lee, Shullsburg; 11
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Otto and Frank, a daughter, Mrs. Ada Klassy, LeRoy, Minn, three brothers and two sisters.
