Rites Held For JoAnn McElfish

Funeral services were held at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 1 for Mrs. Delmer (JoAnn) McElfish of Massena who passed away at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha on Wednesday, October 28, 1987 where she had been taken that morning by Life Flight from Atlantic. She had been in failing health for a number of years. Rev. Clark Christian of the Massena United Methodist Church officiated at the service.

Music was by organist Pearl Spieker and vocalist Barbara Wollenhaupt who san, "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden."

Casketbearers were Jay Carr, LeRoy Hansen, Donald Powell, Bill McElfish, and Brad McElfish. Dorothy McElfish and Mary Ellen McElfish were in charge of the flowers. Interment was in the Massena Center Cemetery with the Steen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

JoAnn M. McElfish was born on October 16, 1934 to Elwood and Marie Roberts Jensen, in Anita, Iowa. She passed away October 28, 1987 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She was fifty-three years old.

JoAnn married Delmer McElfish on January 3, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Leonx, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Randy Clair, Ricky Dell, and Debra Jo.

JoAnn attended Massena School and worked as a telephone operator in Massena for two years. She especially liked little kittens, listening to country music, and the outdoors. Her greatest joy in life was her husband children, and grandchildren. She loved her family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Delmer of Massena, Iowa; sons, Randy McElfish and wife Nancy of Atlantic, Iowa and Ricky McElfish and wife Cindy of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Debra Jo McElfish of Corning, Iowa; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Ihnen and husband John of Cortez, Colorado, Peggy Carr and husband Jerry of Corning, Iowa, and Kay Fudge of Corning, Iowa; many other relatives and friends.

JoAnn will be greatly missed by her family.
