Violet Swenson, 95, of Ponca, NE passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Ponca Assisted Living and Nursing Home (Elms) in Ponca, NE after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE with Rev. Dr. Bud Christenson of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 12, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. Violet V. Engel was born in rural Ponca, NE to Edward and Alta (Jacobs) Engel on September 29, 1916. She married Gene McIntyre on September 20, 1937. The couple farmed on her family farm outside of Ponca until his death on June 3, 1958. She moved to town where she worked as a cook in the school. In July of 1961 she married Adolf Swenson. They moved to Ute, Iowa where she worked as a waitress in the local café in Ute. The couple divorced in Jan. 1965. She moved back to Ponca and opened the Hotel Diner. After many years owning a restaurant, she sold the business and went to work at Centennial Lanes as a waitress until her retirement in 1999 at the age of 83. Throughout her life she enjoyed baking, bowling and gardening, and was a member of the Ponca Flower Club. For many years she made dresses and did sewing for the residents of Ponca.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Davis of Bellevue, NE; sons, Earl McIntyre of Louisville, KY and Jim McIntyre of Ponca, NE; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, twin infant brothers, Edwin and Edward; brother, Evan (Helen) Engel; sister, Doris (Harry) Courtier; one daughter, Jan Eversole; one son, Merle (Mary) McIntyre; and one son-in-law, John Davis.
