John P. Carroll, 68, Butte des Morts, Wis., passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was born on Nov. 10, 1939, in La Crosse, Wis., the first son of the late Perry and Beatrice (Muck) Carroll. John graduated from Bonduel High School in 1957. From there he entered the U.S. Naval Academy, receiving a bachelor's degree and later received an MBA from Harvard University. John served 20 years in the Navy retiring in 1982 and after retirement he settled his family in Butte des Morts, working for Oshkosh Truck, FWD Corporation, and Choice Homes.

On Dec. 19, 1964, in Flint, Mich., John married his loving wife, Kay Winkler, and together they had three sons, Bret (Theresa), Hanford, Calif.; Mark (Laura), Cincinnati, Ohio; and Todd, Lemoore, Calif. John is also survived by three grandchildren, Christian, Jonathan, and William.

John will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the old family farm in the Cecil area, his quick smile and the contagious effect it had on all around him. He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 4 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S. Fourth St. Winneconne with Pastor Mark Albrecht and Pastor John Covach officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service. Inurnment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee, Michigan in the summer.
