Henderson Overby was the son of Peter Zachariah Overby and Ann Yancy from Mecklenburg, Virginia.
He married first, Elizabeth Royster, daugher of John Royster and Phoebe Stovall. Henderson and Elizabeth Elenor had the following children:

Mary Virginia Overby Culbreath 1833-aft 1880.
Caroline Royster Overby Culbreath 1835-abt 1869 [After sister Ann Elizabeth died, Caroline married James H. Culbreath, widower of Ann Elizabeth].
Phebe Stovall Overby Edens 1837-1894.
Panthea Royar/Royall Overby Nichols 1838-1917. . Elizabeth Royster died in 1838.
Henderson then married Anna Hinton Dance of North Carolina by way of the Virginia Dance family of Thomas Dance III and Sara Catherine Hinton.
Henderson had three children with Anna Hinton. They were his 2 daughters; Sarah Newsom, and Mary Edens, and son Edward (Ollie).
Henderson's wife Anna Hinton died in 1867.
Henderson then married Harriet Gordon.
Henderson Overby was killed by a falling log while tearing down an old corn crib in Awalt, Franklin, Tennessee in 1875.
The Awalt, Tennessee home and old Awalt Cemetery now lie at the bottom of Tims Ford Lake which was created in 1971 by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
