Barbara Jean Bishop Jesse, 87, passed away on January 11, 2019, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after leading a long and meaningful life in the Bishop and Kingsville communities. Barbara was born on January 18, 1931, in Enid, Oklahoma. Her parents, Ellen Moritz Bishop and Solon Virgil Bishop settled in South Texas with Barbara and her sister Sue. Barbara attended Texas A&I College, where she met Emil Richard Jesse. They were married on August 27th, 1950 in Kingsville. Together they raised four children in the Bishop and Kingsville communities.
Family was the center of her life. In addition to loving and nurturing her own children, Barbara was a dedicated teacher for over thirty years in the Kingsville Independent School District, retiring in the late 1990’s. She enjoyed visits and chance meetings with her students to hear where their lives had taken them. Barbara loved to read. She loved to laugh, look at pictures and tell stories about life. Her smile was contagious and her kindness touched many people’s lives. Three of her children became teachers and the fourth an engineer – all influenced Barbara’s love of learning.
Barbara was a treasured daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her four children and their spouses; Ellen and Bill Bergmann, Corpus Christi, Texas; Stuart and Janis Jesse, Georgetown, Texas; Bennett Jesse, Corpus Christi, Texas; and Graham Jesse, Portland, Texas; five grandchildren: Colt Jesse and Cass Jesse of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Skylar Jesse of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Kailey Jesse and Nathan Jesse of Portland, Texas; her sister, Sue Dennis of San Antonio, Texas; her sister-in-law, Mildred Jesse George and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
