Christina was the daughter of Gerhard and Eva (Schmidt) Bongard, the pioneers who founded the village and creamery of Bongard, MN.

She wed Ferdinand Brecht and had four daughters
Eleanor, Erna, Wilma and Rosella. The family farmed in Bergen township, McLeod county, MN until an accident forced Ferdinand to sell the farm. The family ended up in Hutchinson by 1927. Shortly after, Ferdinand died in 1932.

In 1942, Christina left Hutchinson and moved to CA to live with her three older daughters until her death in 1968.
