MUNCIE--Charles "Wave" Myers, 81, Muncie, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2008 at Westminster Village.
He was born June 7, 1926 in Lafayette, the son of Mary (Artman) Myers and Herman C. Myers. Wave graduated from Westfield High School, received his Bachelors Degree from Ball State Teachers College in 1950 and his Masters Degree from Purdue University in 1957. He married Jeanette Harvey on Aug. 22, 1948. Wave played on the 1950 undefeated Ball State football team. He began his high school coaching career by starting the football program at Carmel High School. Wave also coached at Rensselaer, Huntington, Ft. Wayne and Marion High Schools. He began his collegiate football coaching career at Ball State University in 1965 and coached through the 1970 season. Wave retired from the Physical Education Department at Ball State University in 1986. Wave was inducted into the Ball State University Hall of Fame in 1989 and into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
Mr. Myers was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in Burma and India. His memberships include College Avenue United Methodist Church and the Cardinal Varsity Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Kazmier (husband-Ernie) of Palm Coast, FL, and Susie Cloyd (husband-Mike) of Yorktown; one son, Rex Myers (wife-Renee) of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Joanne Stephens (husband-Beechler) of Indianapolis, Winifred Randall (husband-Jim) of Noblesville, and Joyce Robinson (husband-LB) of Argos; one brother, Bill Myers (wife-Lou) of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jean Babb of Westfield and Eloise McDonald of Centerville; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Myers in 2004 and one sister, Evelyn Black.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Family and Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday or after 10:30 a.m. Monday.
