James Frederick Hooper was the last of the 8 children of Thomas Hooper and Mary "Polly" Herrin. He is my Great Grandfather. He was born in Cobb Co, Ga in the log home which his parents built in 1835 near the Chattahoochee River.

James served in the Confederate Army, first in the State Guards for 6 months, and then in the regular army. He was taken prisoner and paroled in 1864.

James Hooper married Sarah Winifred Alsobrook and together they had 5 children: Mary Josephine, Thomas William, Henry (Harry) H., Violet Dean and Florence w.

In the 1880's James and Sarah moved to Cullman, Alabama. They took their 3 daughters Josephine, Violet and Florence with them. All 3 married in Alabama. Violet removed to Texas with her husband, Tom Adair, after 1910. It appears Harry and Thomas remained in Georgia.

At some point due to age, finances and poor health, James returned to Georgia to live with his son Harry in Fulton Co, Georgia. He applied for a Confederate Pension in 1909 and it was approved in 1910. Sarah, also in poor health, remained in daughter Florence's care and died in Alabama, 1914.
