Sr. Rose Gerend OSF, 101, died Aug. 25, at Holy Family Convent, Manitwoc. Sr. Rose served as a teacher in Wisconsin, California, Ohio, Hawaii and Arizona. In the Diocese of Green Bay she taught at Guardian Angel Boarding School, Oneida, St. Anthony, Neopit; St.Anthony, Oconto Falls; St. Mary, Brillion; St. Joseph and St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Theresa, Appleton and Immaculate Conception, DePere. She also served as administrator at St. Joseph Home, West Point, Nebraska and as a homemaker at Maria Reina in Lima, Peru. In 1994 Sr. Rose retired to St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc and had been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1998. She is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Katherine Gerend, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Samuel O. Jadin, O.Praem, on August 31, in the Holy Family Convent Chapel.

Sister Rose Gerend, age 101, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Friday Aug. 25, 2006, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Sister Rose was born March 27, 1905 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lorrig) Gerend. She entered the convent in 1920 and professed her vows in 1923. Sister Rose served as a primary grade teacher at St. Joseph, Rice Lake, Guardian Angel Boarding School, Oneida, St. Joseph, Waukesha, St. Anthony, Neopit, St. Andrew, Potosi, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls, St. Mary, Brillion, St. Joseph and St. Philip, Green Bay, St. Therese Appleton, Immaculate Conception, DePere; San Roque, Santa Barbara, Calif.; St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio; St. Theresa, Kekaha, Cathedral, Honolulu, Hawaii; and St. Peter, Bapchule, Ariz. She also served as the Administrator of St. Joseph Home, West Point, Neb., and homemaker at Maria Reina, Lima, Peru. Sister Rose retired to St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, in 1994 and had been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1998. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
