Son of Reuben Bryan (aka Rubin Bryan) of Lafayette, NY. Reuben's obituary (Cortland Standard, Oct 9, 1905) states that he was the youngest of 7 boys, and also had 2 sisters. Five of his brothers were named in his obituary (John, Russell, Henry, Ambrose, and Dudley).
Reuben was raised in Lafayette, where he was a storekeeper, farmer and postmaster. He married Elizabeth Partridge, and had one child, Dudley. He was still in Lafayette for the 1850 census, and was called Reuben, Jr.
Reuben, Elizabeth, and Dudley moved to Cincinnatus, NY, in about 1865. They lived on the West Hill, above town, in an area that became known as "Reubens." (Their farm was the north part of what is now the Knickerbocker Hill Farm.)
