Businessman Charles Hoge worked for the C.R. Mason Manufacturing Company, which, manufactured wagons, carts, boots, shoes, chairs, furniture, overalls, shirts and mattresses in cooperation with the Kentucky Penitentiary.

Later he became president of the Hoge-Montgmoery Company, which operated a large brick factory across the street from teh prison. He was on the board of directors for the Capital Trust Bank and was a chashier with the State National Bank.

In 1909, he became president of State National Bank.
