George Woolfolk was one of the children of Robert Woolfolk, Jr. and his wife Jane Peay. George's father served as an Orderly Sergeant under Capt. Edward Pendleton and Col. Holt Richardson during the American Revolution.

George was united in marriage November 25, 1817 to Catherine (Kitty Temple) Tompkins Gwathmey, one of the daughters of Owen Gwathmey, Jr. and his wife Ann Rogers Clark. Kitty was one of the niece's of General George Rogers Clark.

George and Kitty were blessed with the birth of at least five children during their marriage:

Robert Owen Woolfolk
Dr. George William Woolfolk
Frances (Fannie) Jane Woolfolk Wallace
Ann Clark Woolfolk
Elizabeth Woolfolk

George passed away at the young age of 50, twenty-three years earlier than his beloved wife Kitty. He is interred with his wife, some of their children, and in-laws.
