Burlington — Avis A. Fischer, 62, Burlington, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, in the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born Nov. 5, 1949, in Mitchell, S.D., the daughter of Elmer and Marian (Jacobson) Fischer. She was never married.
Avis was a 1968 graduate from Western High School. She retired from the insurance industry after more than 34 years of service, having worked with Western Southern Life Company and United Presidential Insurance. She had also worked with Market Share Financial of Indianapolis.
Avis was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and loved her church family. She enjoyed attending Bible study, photography, scrap booking and traveling. In her younger days, Avis enjoyed being involved with Rural Youth and National Honor Society.
Avis is survived by her mother and step-father, Marian and Robert Davis, Kokomo; sister-in-law, Kathy Fischer, Kokomo; nephews, Ryan (Tamie) Fischer, Kokomo, and Adam (Christina) Fischer, Noblesville; niece, Natlie (Patrick) Grecu, Pullman, Wash.; great-nieces, Lauren and Jaelyn Fischer; one aunt, Norma Fristada, Letcher, S.D.; and many cousins.
Avis was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Fischer, in 1979; and a brother, Gary Fischer, in 2011.
A celebration of Avis' life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, 44 Michigan Road, Burlington, with Pastor David Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
