Kevin Michael Brennan, 61, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 of lung cancer.

Kevin was born May 2, 1951, the son of David P. and Mary E. Hefner Brennan. He was a life-long Topekan who attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School and graduated from Hayden High in 1969. Kevin served in the US Army Reserve for six years.

Thirty-five years ago, Kevin and Mary Halpin were married. She survives.

In 1995, he was diagnosed with cancer and told that he would die. God chose otherwise and Kevin's doctors agreed that he had received a miracle. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1999 with 30 years of service.

In 2001, Kevin fulfilled his long held dream, and honored his grandparents, Matthew and Mary Ellen Brennan, and his father's memory, by continuing the Brennan legacy of providing excellent funeral service to the Topeka area. The only Brennans in funeral service in Topeka are at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. He and Mary and two of their children operate their business with the promise of a Brennan at every service.

Kevin was a parishioner of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 and the James W. Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly, the Topeka St. Patrick's Day Committee and the Topeka Cosmopolitan Club. Kevin was most appreciative of the additional 17 years granted to him by Almighty God and did his best to honor that gift.

Left to cherish Kevin's memory are his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer Brennan Emmert, and husband, Mike, Topeka; daughter, Kate Brennan Weber, and husband, Monty, Great Bend; son, K. Michael Brennan II, and wife, Catie, Olathe; son, Patrick Brennan, Lawrence; grandchildren, Michaela, Liz and Clare Emmert, Finley and Elliott Weber, and Declan Brennan; siblings, Patrick Brennan (Linda), Mary Beth Brennan (Randy Goldsmith), Kent Brennan, David Brennan, Jr. (Mary DeCoursey), Greg Brennan (Joy), and Kathy Whalen (Scott); brother-in-law, Denis Kenney; aunt, Leah Hefner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nancy Kenney, on March 4, 2012 and niece, Bridget Kenney.

Family will greet friends from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at his funeral home, Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614. A Fourth Degree Chalice Ceremony will be held at 7:30 at the funeral home followed by a rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
