Susan M. Groh-Trampenau

"In a meadow of columbine" Susan M. Groh-Trampenau, age 58, of McKean passed away at home on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Sue was born in Erie on October 11, 1953. A daughter of Michael R. Groh and Hazel Groh Laux.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Michael Groh.

Sue graduated from McDowell High School in 1971, and then graduated with an Associate's Degree from Penn State Behrend.

After college she bought Carmel's neighborhood grocery on West 8th Street from her mother and enjoyed running the store, and especially the people from the neighborhood.

Sue lived for many years in Denver, Colorado through the 80's and 90's where she met her husband, Tim, who just happened to be from Erie too. Like so many from Erie, Sue and Tim were drawn back "home" and for the past 12 years lived their dream of "country living" in McKean.

Sue enjoyed raising chickens and gave away many brown eggs to family and friends. She was an avid gardener and found much peace digging and planting. She was active with her McDowell class of 1971 reunions and enjoyed seeing old classmates and keeping in touch on Facebook. She was a dedicated bird watcher and had a thrill seeing the endangered Whooping Cranes along with the Sand Hill Cranes migrating through San Luis Valley of Colorado. Sue was also a "Tifosi" (Formula One racing fan esp. Ferrari) and attended many races including a race at Monza, Italy and of course Indy.

Sue worked for many years for Carrier Corp. commercial engineering and sales office in Denver. Then in Erie for Bliley Technologies and part time for Fairview School District Administration. For the past 10 years she was a member and then leader of "The Circle of Courage", a local ovarian cancer support group, where she made many friends and helped many women with their own struggles with ovarian cancer. Until her health declined, she and her husband enjoyed the Siebenbuerger Saturday night, "Ball Busters" bowling league.

Sue is survived by her loving partner and husband of 21 years, Timothy G. Trampenau; sister, Katherine Groh, Fairhaven, Mass.; brother, James Groh (Mary), San Antonio, Texas; sister Jeanne Walburn Gaines (BJ), Citra, Fla.; sister, Carol Walburn Marlow, Blooming Valley, Ohio; in-laws, Howard and Lorraine Trampenau, Erie, Pa.; and many other family and friends (also her faithful dog "Jack" and his posse of five cats). Vaya con dios mi amor.

Family and friends may call at the Dusckas Martin Funeral Home Erie, Pa. from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Cemetery, West Rd., McKean, Pa.
