Sister Mary Helen Fagan, age 94, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2000,
at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian
Burial will be Rev. Samuel O. Jadin, O. Praem, with burial in Holy
Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Lucille Fagan on January 3, 1906, in Manistique,Mich.,
daughter of the late Michael and Mary Spangler Fagan. Sister Mary Helen
earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Catholic University of
America, Washington, D.C. She entered the convent in 1920, and professed
her vows in 1925. Sister Mary Helen served as an elementary teacher at
St. John, Antigo, San Roque, Calif., and Hillside, Ill., and then as a
high school teacher at Holy Family Academy, Manitowoc, St. Andre,
Potosi, Wis., St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, and St. Nicholas, Zanesville,
Ohio. She also served as Librarian at Holy Family Academy, Manitowoc,
St. Wendel, Cleveland, Corpus Christi, Sturgeon Bay, St. Willibrord,
Chicago, Ill., and Guardian Angels, West Point, Neb. After retiring from
active ministry, she performed various tasks at Holy Family Convent,
Manitowoc and San Damiano Convent, Slinger, Wis. She has been a resident
of St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1992. She is a member
of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister,
Helen Duvall, Urbana, Ohio; nieces, nephews, their relatives and friends.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday,
March 16, 2000, at the Holy Family Convent. A prayer service will be
held at 7 p.m. at the Holy family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with
funeral arrangements.
