According to her mother's obituary the family moved to Bloomington Indiana about 1922. The move also included her brothers, John Eugene and Leonard Lee Philpott. Five more siblings were born in Bloomington.

Lena's first marriage was to Vacil Patton, 7 Mar 1936, Brown County, Indiana. Vacil died 27 Feb 1938, Monroe County Indiana.

Married Gabriel Fredrick Leturgez, 5 Oct 1946 in Terre Haute, Indiana. They had 7 children.
