Sister Regula Essert, age 87, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity, died Friday morning, Feb. 21, 2003, at Holy Family
Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at
Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of
Christian Burial will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem, with burial
at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Helen Essert was born Aug. 25, 1915, in Dickinson, N.D.,
daughter of the late Stephan and Mary Kleiner Essert. She entered the
convent in 1931 and professed her vows in 1934. Sister Regula earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere. Sister Regula
served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Mary and St. Aloysius,
Kaukauna; St. Boniface, Manitowoc; Holy Rosary, Kewaunee; St. Therese,
Appleton; St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. John, Antigo; St. Anthony, Oconto
Falls; St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Joseph, Kellnersville; St. Mary,
Clarks Mills; all in Wisconsin; St. John, Menominee; St. Ambrose,
Ironwood; St. Francis, Manistique; and St. John, Marquette; all in
Michigan. She also served as librarian at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey,
Menominee Catholic Central, Menominee, both in Michigan; SS Peter &
Paul, Kiel and St. Paul, Wrightstown, both in Wisconsin. After retiring
from active ministry, she performed various services at Holy Family
Convent. She has been a resident of St. Rita Health Center at the
Motherhouse since 1997. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of
Christian Charity.
Survivors include The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two
sisters: Sister Roque Essert, OSF, Manitowoc; and Pauline Dibble,
Sturtevant, Wis. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family convent,
Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday where a prayer service will be held
at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
