Fred Arthur Skeem, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, October 5th in Delta, UT. He was born May 29th, 1930 to Peter & Fontella Skeem in Oasis, UT. Fred married his high school sweetheart Elva LaRue Webb, August 11, 1950 in the Manti Temple.

Fred started working for Union Pacific Railroad before he married Elva in 1950 and retired after 32 years due to a work accident that permanently injured his back. All his life as his second job, he spent many long hours farming and raising lifestock with the help of his wife and children. Fred always had a love of horses. As a young man, he loved observing the mustangs out west and always had numerous horses of his own. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as long as his health permitted. He had a great appreciation for where he came from, a thankfulness of those who came before him and greatly valued hard work and personal integrity. He loved collecting antiques and in his later years restored a covered wagon and many old fashioned buggies. Fred was always busy doing something; he remodeled his home, created beautiful woodwork, and had many talents and hobbies including gardening and leather work. Fred's other love was his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was notorious for spoiling them rotten and always having drawers full of candy bags for them when they visited. He came from a long line of practical jokers and he certainly didn't fail to pass on his fair share. He will be greatly missed!

Fred and Elva choose to serve an LDS Mission in Mackenzie and Burns Lake, BC, Canada from 1989-1990. Fred chose to serve a mission to share his love of the gospel and to be an example to his grandchildren of the importance of remembering and serving the Lord.

Fred and Elva had 7 children: Beverly (Robert) Roth of Salt Lake City, UT; Sheldon (Debbie) Skeem of Oasis, UT; Gwen (Mark) Losee of Delta, UT; Paul (Tammy) Skeem of Delta, UT; Jerry (Leandra) Skeem of Oasis, UT; David (Chela) Skeem of Franklin, Indiana; and Cheryl (Scott) Williams of Eagle Mountain, UT. They have 62 grandchildren of which "21 are adopted" and 58 great grand-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Elva LaRue Skeem; grandson Johnathan Leslie Skeem; great-grandsons Carter David Cowley and Nicholas Alexander Walther; brother Jerold Edwin Skeem; sister Kathleen Faris; parents Peter Edwin Skeem and Verna Fontella Talbot.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday Oct 13, 2012 at 11 am at the Hinckley LDS Chapel (188 N Main, Hinckley, UT) with a viewing from 9:30-10:30am.
