The 1850 Attala County, Mississippi Census shows Amanda C. Waddell living with John J. & Eleanor Avent. It says she was born about 1837 in Mississippi. On the 1860 Richland Beat, Holmes County, Mississippi Census Amanda is shown married to Jesse Rambo with their children: William Franklin Rambo, John Jordan Rambo and Robert Waddell Rambo. From the age of William Franklin Rambo (the first known child of theirs), it would look as though Jesse and Amanda were married in between 1850 and 1853. One of their closest neighbors on the 1860 census was, Hugh Cameron; he would appear to be the namesake of Jesse and Amanda's last known child, Hugh Cameron Rambo.

It is interesting to note that a Reuben Rambo, who lived nearby in Leake County, owned land in Holmes County (per land deeds). It is highly possible that Reuben was the father of Jesse Rambo. Reuben had other children in that area and Louisiana. They were Ransom Rambo (that lived in Attala County, Mississippi and later Rapides and Grant Parishes in Lousiana); Martha (Rambo) Calcote who lived in Mississippi and Bienville, Jackson and Grant Parishes of Louisiana; William "Will" Calvin Rambo who lived in Grant Parish, Louisiana and Milam County, Texas; Joseph Rambo who lived in Attala County, Mississippi and Jackson and Grant Parishes of Louisiana. The places of burial of Reuben Rambo, Martha (Rambo) Calcote, William "Will" Calvin Rambo, Jesse Rambo and Joseph Rambo are not definitely known at this time.

Jesse Rambo fought fought for the Confederacy during the war and was shot in the leg. Being wounded, he returned home for a period to heal. After his leg had mended, he reported to the army, got on his mule and said, "I'm goin' to kill that damn Yankee that shot me." He never returned. When Jesse never came back, Amanda remarried to Hugh Cameron (This information was courtesy of Mr. John Rambo of Jacksonville, Florida from the line of Hugh Cameron Rambo). Amanda had at least one child by Hugh named, Archie (may have been short for Archibald).

After the war between the states (and by the time of the 1880 Coryell County, Texas Census) Amanda shows up in Texas married to a John T. Darnell. There is a John T. Darnell that was committed to the Austin State Hospital. It is not known for sure that this is the same man.

On 9th September 1893, Amanda "Mandy" C. (Waddell) Rambo Darnell remarried to a John Dolan or Doolen in Coryell County, Texas. By the time of the 1900 Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas Census, Amanda C. Dolan is shown living with her son-in-law that married Ida Darnell (Ida married Charles Rahl who seems to have died due to epilepsy in The North Texas Hospital For The Insane, according to death records).
