Born near Kiefer, Creek County, Oklahoma on June 29, 1914 to Harold "Harley" Sherman Brunson and Julia Vilora (Linton) Brunson. His siblings were Arthur Linton Brunson (1908-1999), Verling Dale (Brunson) Ramahlo (1910-1997), and Jack Vernon Brunson (1923-2001).

His father worked as an oil field engineer and the family followed the oil fields from Oklahoma to California. He lived in Bald Hill, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma in 1920; and Careaga, Santa Barbara County, California in 1930. Frank moved with his family to Porterville, Tulare County, California before 1935.

Attended John Dewey Vocational Junior High, Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California in 1930. Completed two years of high school; obtained a bachelor degree in business.

Married Harriet Fredonia Wilkinson in Las Vegas, Nevada on 17 August 1940. They lived in Porterville, California until 1962. Father of Judith Isabella (Brunson) Williamson, (14 June 1941-23 September 2011); Richard Linton Brunson, born 20 Oct 1945; and Frank Gilbert Brunson, Jr., born 2 May 1948.

Frank worked as a bookkeeper for Sunlight Bakery in Porterville, California when he met his future wife Harriet. He was proprietor of Brunson's Electric Shop (later B&B Appliance) in Porterville, California for many years until 1962; appliance repairman for Sears in San Luis Obispo, California until 1964 and also in Stockton, California until 1966. He studied electronics at the Motorola Electronics Institute by correspondence course and obtained a Second Class Radio Telephone certification from the State of California in 1966. Thereafter he worked as two-way FM radio repairman and owned a radio repeater station in 1972 on Hatchet Peak above Porterville, California.

Frank and Harriet moved from Stockton to Newport Beach, California in 1967 where Harriet worked as a psychiatric technician. They then returned to Porterville in 1970. They moved from Porterville to Tulare, California in 2000 to be close to their daughter Judith.

Frank held a private pilot license in the 1950's and owned a single engine Luscombe Model 8 aircraft which he often piloted from Porterville Airport to Pismo Beach, California with family members. Later he was an early adopter of solar energy installing solar panels on his home in the 1990's.

Frank died of cardiac arrest on July 4, 2003. He underwent a coronary bypass in 1991 but was in good health until a few years before his death. He is buried in the Duncan-McDonald Family Cemetery above Springville, California.

Frank worked very hard for many years to support his family.
