Dennis attended Lake Benton High School. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in Korea. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and was in charge of a mortar platoon and training.
In 1953, he married Beverly Ann Voss and lived in Pipestone and later Lake Benton, MN until 1960. Together, they managed the Showboat Ballroom for a time. He worked as a plasterer and moved to Stockton, California in 1960, where there were more work opportunities.
They had two children, son Michael and daughter June. He sometimes assisted in coaching his son's little league team and also helped with the Boy Scouts Troop. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer.
He passed away on April 25, 1974 and is buried in Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA, next to his wife, Beverly.
