Funeral services for Betty Sue Gilley Scott, 84, will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Linson. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
Following a brief illness, Mrs. Scott died at her residence on Friday morning January 12, 2007. Mrs. Scott was one of eleven children. She was born in Rockingham County, NC, the daughter of Frank T. and Betty Lou Carter Heffinger. Prior to moving to Monroe in 1972, she lived on Stockland Plantation north of Tallulah, LA.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Frederick Montgomery Gilley, General Manager of Stockland Plantation and a native of Eden, seven brothers and one sister all of whom lived in North Carolina and Virginia, and her son-in-law, Daniel Burnett of West Monroe.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan G. Vinson of Monroe and Betty G. Burnett of West Monroe, one sister, Vera Dew of Phoenix, AZ, who was visiting her at the time of her death and one brother, Sam Heffinger of Madison, NC. She had four grandchildren: Heather Willis of Monroe, Toby, Cliff and Monty Burnett of West Monroe. Her great grandchildren are Blake, Brook, Jesse, Bryce, Tyler, ReAnn and Molly Burnett. She shared a very special bond with her great granddaughter, Hannah Paige Willis on whose life she made a lasting impact.
Pallbearers will be Toby, Monty and Blake Burnett and her granddaughter's husband Richard Willis to whom the immediate family owes a special debt of gratitude.
