When Joseph became of age, he changed his name to "Plumb" which is the English translation of Svestka. He married Aletha "Alice" Kelly about 1926; they had no children. Joseph was a crane operator for an automobile company and they lived in Clio, Genesee, Michigan.
Joseph died September 9, 1981, in Vienna; he is buried in Flint Memorial Park.
Survivors: his wife, Alice; four half-brothers: Ladd, Frank, James and William Svestka; and four half-sisters: Barbara (John) Prochaska, Georgia (Steve) Benedick, Lillian (Robert) Vandre, and Ann (Richard) Leggett.
