Sue Farley left the physical pain of this world and went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, February 5, 2012. Nelda Sue Farley was born August 29, 1935, in Dickens, Texas, to John and Gladys Cumbie. Sue was the youngest of four children, the little sister to her three brothers. Sue grew up in Dickens and graduated from Dickens High school in 1953. As a sophomore, she met the love of her life, Gerald Farley, also of Dickens. He proposed the night of Sue's high school graduation. After attending Texas Tech University, Sue and Gerald were married June 26, 1954, at First Baptist church in Dickens, TX. Soon after, they started their family and relocated to Midland in 1960. She was a homemaker, devoting her life to her husband and children. Not long after moving to Midland, Sue joined Fannin Terrace Baptist and taught in the children's department. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and faithfully served in the church. She had a love for animals, with a special fondness for cats. There was never a time when pets were not a part of the home. She cared for and loved our pets as members of the family. Sue's hobbies included sewing, decorating, and playing the piano. She was a talented seamstress, often making outfits for her daughters and all their special occasions. She enjoyed music and began playing the piano at the age of 15. She was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and always, Texas Tech. Preceding her in death were her brother, Arnel Ray Cumbie; her parents, John and Gladys Cumbie; and husband, Gerald Farley. Left to cherish Sue's memory are daughter, Donna Garrett, son-in-law, Don Garrett, and beloved grandson, Brian Garrett of Ft. Worth, TX; son, James Farley of Midland, TX; daughter, Jayne Bromley, son-in-law, Don Bromley of Midland. Also, brother, John Cumbie and wife, Betty Cumbie of Lubbock, TX; brother, Bill Cumbie and wife, Marlene of Columbia, Missouri; sister-in-law, Lurlene Shobert and husband, Jerry of Spur, TX; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Don Garrett, Brian Garrett, James Farley, and Don Bromley. Visitation with family and friends was held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Ellis Funeral home. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church, with Dr. Douglas Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral home. Condolences may be made at: www.ellisfunerals.com. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Saddleridge Lodge for their care and friendship with Sue the last two years. The family suggests memorials be made to Lone Star SPCA of Midland, TX or Fannin Terrace Baptist Church.
