Charlie Barnes, 93, was born on June 19, 1918 in Hamburg, Iowa. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, and root for the Dodgers. He was an Army Veteran from World War II and a purple heart recipient. He was a lifetime Elks member and a Chartered member of the Meat Cutters' Union. Charlie was a retired meat cutter who owned three meat markets in Redding before he was employed by Farmers Market in 1955.

On August 30, 2011, Charlie passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife of almost 60 years, Dottie, who tenderly cared for him in his last months with their son Mike and grandchildren Bryan and Nicholle, whom he doted on excessively. The first memory Dottie has of her husband was on their first date when he turned to her with his great smile and said, "We will marry."

Charlie is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate Dottie; his children Mike (June), Doug (Sue), Alma Turner, Charles (Robin); grandchildren Bryan, Nicholle, Doug, Belinda, Charley, Kyra; and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Many thanks to hospice and Enterprise Fire Department for all their services.

Services will be held at Northern California Veterans Cemetery on Friday September 16, 2011 at 2 PM. Please sign the guestbook at http://obituaries.redding.com
