MRS. GEORGE FORWARD DIED FRIDAY NIGHT FROM HEART TROUBLE
This community was shocked Saturday morning to hear that one of our older residents, Mrs. Sarah Forward, had passed away at midnight at the home of her son, A. L. where she had been making her home for several years past. As she had not been ill, only suffering from a cold as so many are doing, her death came as more of a shock.
She had eaten supper apparently feeling as well as usual and about nine o'clock had retired. Around ten o'clock her son heard her groaning and while making his way to her room, heard her call Bessie who slept in an adjoining room and say that she thought she was dying. They hurried to her room and she asked for water when she which she was given. Mr. Forward hurried for a Doctor but before his arrival, she had passed quietly and peacefully over. Her death being due to heart failure.
Sara Olivia Burnham was born in Manlius, New York, August 26, 1838. She spent the early years of her life in New York, coming from her home in New York city to Illinois in 1870. In July 1871 she was united in marriage to George Forward of Leon where they resided for about six years, moving from Leon to Tampico where she has since made her home. Her husband, George Forward, preceding her in death ten years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Forward both united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of Tampico in the year 1894, and were faithful members of this church.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Forward went to live at the home of her step-son, A. L. Forward, where she has since resided. She had been enjoying fairly good health, but quietly passed away. Aged 85 years, 5 months.
Mrs. Forward leaves to mourn her loss, one step-son, A. L. FORWARD, seven grand-children, and several great grand-children, and many relatives and fiends. One step-daughter, Mrs. Minnie Craddock, preceded her in death eleven years ago.
"When our earthly day is closing and the night grows still and deep - Let us, in Thine arms reposing. Feel Thy power to save and keep. Blessed Jesus, Give Thine own beloved sleep."
Funeral services were held at the home of half past one o'clock, and at the Methodist Episcopal Church at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Jan. 28, 1924. Services were conducted by the pastor Rev. I. A. Woodrow. Several beautiful and appropriate hymns were sung by Mr. Homer Turner nd Mrs. Maggie McKenzie, accompanied by Mrs. R. F. Woods, A. E. Bennett, R. E. McKenzie, John Strouss, L. E. Smith, Oscar Wetzekk and Swan Anderson acted as pallbearers.
Interment was in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery.
