Mary Catherine Ennis was born on 29 Jan 1871, in Tagoat, County Wexford, Ireland. Her parents were Daniel and Margaret (nee Rockford) Ennis, whom were married on the 27th of January 1867, in the Parish of Tagoat, Diocese of Ferns, in the County of Wexford, Ireland.

Mary Catherine Ennis was the second child born to Daniel and Margreth (nee Rockford) Ennis. Her brother, James, had been born on 4 Sep 1868, in Broadway, Wexford, Ireland. Followed by the births of her twin sister Margreth Ennis (1871-1871), Sara Margaret Ennis (1873-1903), Catherine "Katie" Ennis (1875 - ), Laurence Ennis (1877-?), Margaret Mary Ennis (1879-1936), Thomas Ennis (1886-1952), John Ennis (1889- ), and Anna Marie Ennis (1891-1943).
