Carl Carlsen Dies on 56th Birthday

Carl Nicolni Carlsen, 56, retired farmer, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family hospital on his 56th birthday. He had been ill for several years and died of kidney and heart ailments.
Mr. Carlsen was born April 26, 1896, In Lanoka, Kendall county, Ill., and moved to Martin county, Minn., with his parents at the age of six. He was educated in the public schools near Ceylon.
He farmed near Dollivor until his marriage, to Ruth Hjelmeland of Fertile on Aug. 18, 1923. In 1938 the couple bought a farm four miles northwest of Ceylon where they lived until Mr. Carlsen retired a year and ago and moved to Estherville.
Mr. Carlsen was a member of the Palestine Lutheran church of Dolliver and held various church positions. Including those of elder and treasurer.
Surviving his death are his widow and a son, Vernee Carlsen of St. Peter, Minn.
Other survivors are four brothers, the Rev. Sam Carlsen of Canton, S. D., Alfred of Farwell, Minn., Kenneth of Pasadena, Calif., and the Rev. Sanford Carlsen of Jewell; and four sisters, Mrs. Everett Shaw of Esthervllle, Mrs. Albert Anderson of Ceylon, Minn., Mrs. Stanley Ericksen of Ceylon, and Mrs. Erling Christensen of Portland, Ore.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday ,at the Sandin funeral home and at 2:30 p.m. at the Palestine Lutheran church, the Rev. R. A. Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p. m. today.
