Lillie was born on the Manhart homestead near Durham, Oklahoma, the second child of Robert and Essie Manhart. She started to school at Sunny Slope when she was five years old. Her older sister, Alice, had waited until she was seven and when she went to school, Lillie cried every day until her parents finally relented and let her go. Later as younger sister, Eva started school they walked nearly three miles across farm fields in good weather. Their teacher was Virgil Baxer and he would pick them up and take them to school in his car. When Bobbie was old enough for school Sunny Slope was consolidated and the four Manhart children attended school at Durham.
She attended school at Sunny Slope through the sixth grade then attended Durham High School and graduated with the Class of 1941.
Lillie attended college at Southwestern at Weatherford and returned to teach at Roll School in 1942-43, even though she wasn't quite 18 years old. Roll was consolidated with Crawford that year. The next school year, 1943-44, she taught 5th and 6th grade at Durham.
Lillie moved to Oklahoma City and worked at Tinker Field during part of the war. She then worked at Crane Plumbing Co. for 12 years and and a secretary for Lee Way Motor Freight for 18 years.
She married James Bell Quinn who preceded her in death in 1980. They have one daughter, Phyllis Marie.
Lillie was a member of The Professional Women's Club and was instrumental in having Augusta Metcalfe to present a program and display some of her famous paintings. Lillie was a member of the Mayfair Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before moving to Tulsa to live close to her daughter and family.
Lillie's home was always a loving, welcoming place for family and friends. When her mother broke her hip she cared for her in her home. Lillie made many trips to Illinois to take her father and mother to visit family and old friends.
Lillie was proud of her heritage and shared her stories of the Dust Bowl era, hard work, respect, and pride in accomplishments and being from Durham!
Her daughter, Phyllis, and husband Chris Fields, two grandsons, Quinn and Conner, survive her, also two sisters, Alice, and her husband Dean Cartwright of Odessa, Texas, Eva Atchison of Dover, Florida, one brother, Bob Manhart and wife, Donna of Durham, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Lillie was laid to rest November 1, 2011 at the Fairview Cemetery, Durham, next to her parents, and baby sister, Ada Roberta.
