Rosemary J. Barrand, 83, formerly of Denton, passed away on October 4, 2012 at Sweet Life Care Center in Overland Park, KS.

Rosemary was born in Horton, KS on April 13, 1929, to Alice Honer Hanson and Selmer Hanson. She lived with her family on a farm south of Leona. Rosemary graduated from Leona High School in 1946 and attended Washburn University for two years.

She and William Barrand were married in Robinson, KS on November 6, 1948. They farmed and raised livestock on their farm south of Denton until 2007, when they moved to Overland Park to be near their daughters and families. Rosemary and Bill were married 59 years when he passed away in December 2007.

Rosemary owned and operated a beauty salon in her home for many years. She was a member of the Denton United Methodist Church. Rosemary was also a member of the Cheerio Extension Unit, the Sewing Club, and United Methodist Women. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, watching KU basketball games, playing Scrabble, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Pat Aboujawdeh and husband Henry and daughter Brenda Barrand and husband Ken James, all of Overland Park. Also surviving are grandchildren Marla Aboujawdeh Newman and husband Joe of Overland Park, Laina Aboujawdeh of Clayton, Missouri, and Kara and Cameron James of Overland Park. Rosemary was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild, a baby boy expected by Marla and Joe Newman in December. Rosemary is also survived by her brother Stanley Hanson and his wife Evelyn of Kansas City, Kansas, sister Marilyn Suman of Overland Park, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m., Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Denton United Methodist Church in Denton, KS. Pastor Patty Gerstenberger will officiate. Interment will follow at the Denton Cemetery.
